Despite Opposition from Fellow Students, Voice for Life Continues its Uncompromising Fight for the Unborn

Proving that courage and persistence pays, the John Hopkins University student group, Voice for Life refused to take no for an answer after they were denied the right  to display fetal models during the University’s Spring Fair.   Although the model display has been a fixture of the University’s Spring Fair for decades, this year, a student committee and its faculty advisers determined that the display “contains triggering and disturbing images and content.”

However, after being contacted by Fox News, the student committee capitulated and informed Voice for Life by e-mail that the display would be allowed.

Andrew Guernsey, Voice for Life’s president, commented “I certainly find it ironic that a university that has dedicated itself to the advancement of medicine and biology would find displaying medically accurate fetal models disturbing and offensive.”Kudos to all the student members of Voice for Life and their president Andrew Guernsey.  Voice for Life has come a long way since having to battle for University recognition back in the spring of 2013.

You may recall that in the spring of 2013, the John Hopkins University’s Student Government Association attempted to deny recognition to the pro-life student group Voice for Life deeming the group’s activities “harassing,” “offensive,” and comparable to a “White supremacist organization.” At the request of Andrew Guernsey, the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) stepped in immediately. In a 5-page letter to the officials at Johns Hopkins TMLC explained why the student group should be recognized under the University’s own policy supporting the free expression of ideas.

Less than a week later, the University’s Student Government Association backed down and offered recognition to Voice for Life. At the time I commented that this was a great example of courageous students facing tremendous opposition, sticking to their deeply held pro-life principles and advancing those principles based on their right to free speech so deeply engrained in our culture and enshrined in our constitution.

Voice for Life continues to serve as a courageous example of pro-life youth. In just two years, Voice for Life won the University’s “Best New Group” award, created rich dialogue about a presentation by radical pro-abortion activist Gloria Steinem, and brought powerful presentations and demonstrations to campus about the horrors of abortion. The students also continue to conduct sidewalk counseling outside of a local abortion clinic and run the pregnancy resource website PregnantAtJHU.org.

Bill O’Reilly Declares: “The Holy War Is Here” – Challenges Our Nation’s Religious Leaders (Must see Videos)

During the Talking Points segment of last night’s show, Bill O’Reilly, angry over President Obama’s downplaying of ISIS’s beheading of 21 Coptic Christians, declared “The Holy War is Here.” 

Later in the show, Bill asked the American people to email the President and say “enough.”

He also challenged our Nation’s religious leaders: “I’m calling for every cleric in the country to address this with their congregations next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They have to say that we people of good faith must tell our leaders to get in gear. I’d like to see every cleric in this country to do that! I want every pastor, every priest, every imam, and every rabbi to email me personally and tell me you’re going to do that. I’ll read as many on the air as I can.”

A Slap in the Face – Marines Ordered to Destroy their Weapons as the Yemen Embassy is Surrendered

Adding another slap in the face to our military, the US State Department ordered Marines guarding our Yemen embassy to abandon their vehicles and destroy all weapons as they left, thus signaling a surrender anathema to any Marine.
We have three anti-military and antiwar leaders now supposedly defending our national security and determining our strategy in the Middle East: President Obama, Secretary of State Kerry and Secretary of Defense Hagel.
Initial reports quoting Pentagon spokesperson Army Col. Steve Warren stated that machine guns and all crew served weapons were destroyed at the embassy prior to evacuation while personal weapons were turned over or otherwise left behind. However, after these reports raised alarm that Houthi rebels in the region had seized the surrendered weapons, a new statement was issued which stated that in fact all personal weapons were destroyed by sledgehammer at the airport where the Marine force was evacuated by a civilian aircraft.
In a speech on ISIL last September, President Obama stated his goal was to “degrade and ultimately destroy” ISIL.  It seems that his policy could be more accurately stated as degrading and ultimately destroying our military.  And the Islamic terrorists will have a propaganda field day with our latest surrender. 
This isn’t the first time the US has waved the white flag of surrender over our embassies. In July 2014, we surrendered our embassy in Tripoli, Libya and in February 2012 our embassy in Damascus, Syria.  Moreover, in the summer of 2013, we temporarily closed 21 embassies in the Middle East and Northern Africa.
But never has Obama and Kerry’s State Department literally demanded the disarming of Marines in violation of their Rifleman’s Creed.
 
 
The Houthi rebels, backed by Iranian Islamic militants, caused the collapse of the pro-US central government in Yemen in January 2015. Prior to their overthrow, the Yemeni government had been an ally in the fight against Al Qaeda. Yesterday, thousands of Houthi supporters marched through the streets shouting “Death to America.” And just this week, reports have been confirmed that some Al Qaeda aligned Islamic fighters in Yemen are now pledging their loyalty to ISIS.
These are the men that our Commander-in-Chief and his administration refuse to call Islamic terrorists. In fact, this past September, Obama held Yemen up as a “success story” for dealing with terrorists, suggesting that our strategies there could defeat ISIS. Now, not only has a new group of anti-American Islamic militants forced our surrender, but the administration has joined them in insulting our Marines in the process by demanding they violate their rifleman’s creed.
We have many retired military officers, including Generals, speaking out against the President’s dismantling of our military and degrading of our national security.  I know it is a difficult personal decision, but some active duty Pentagon Generals should consider publicly resigning in disgust and protest. 

Red Mass: “The war on Christians in America”

I was honored to be invited by Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey, STL, DD of the Corpus Christi, TX diocese to give the keynote speech after the Red Mass held in the beautiful Corpus Christi Cathedral on October 2nd.

The “Red Mass” is a historical tradition within the Catholic Church dating back to the thirteenth century when it officially opened the term of the court for most European countries. The Red Mass is currently celebrated in dioceses throughout the United States to invoke God’s blessing upon the members of the Bench, Bar, Legislature, Law Enforcement and Governmental agencies.

THE WAR ON CHRISTIANS IN AMERICA  

My speech took place after the Mass.  It concerned the decades-long, war on Christians in America.  The U. S. Supreme Court through a series of decisions starting in the 1960s, has incrementally engineered the de-Christianization of our nation while most Christians are sitting silently in the pews.

 

The Supreme Court has become the most dominant branch of government when it comes to the Culture War.  It is the ultimate determiner of the direction of our culture.  It is in the Courts that the great moral issues are being fought.

After my speech, I had the pleasure of meeting with a joyous group of students (pictured above) from the local St. John Paul II High School.

On July 22nd of this year I was privileged to attend the full dress burial of Admiral Jeremiah Denton, Jr. at the Arlington National Cemetery.  It was an impressive ceremony befitting a true American hero.  I would like to share a short video which I believe will capture the solemnity of that ceremony.

Admiral Denton was a devout Christian and an American Patriot.  He was also a friend of the Law Center and the President of the Law Center’s Citizens Advisory Board.

An excerpt from a recent book, Defiant by Alvin Townley, describes the courage of this true American Hero:

“Over the growing ruckus, Shu heard Jerry Denton roar: ‘You are Americans! Keep your heads up!’ His command spread through the columns and heads snapped back up. Rifle butts descended on those who refused to bow, but the men did their best not to submit before the citizens of Hanoi.” 

Admiral Denton first came to the attention of the American public during the Vietnam War while a POW.

During an arranged propaganda video interview—despite brutal torture by his North Vietnamese captors—he refused to condemn America. 

Throughout the interview, Denton blinked his eyes in Morse Code repeatedly spelling out the message “TORTURE.   

He spent nearly 8 years as a POW, 4 of those in solitary confinement. 

After his release in 1973, Denton continued his military service and upon retirement from the Navy, he was elected to represent Alabama in the U.S. Senate.

While he was serving in the Senate, President Reagan singled him out as a true American hero.

In honor of his memory, the Law Center would like to share with you this shortened version of his solemn burial ceremony.

Remembering 9/11 is Not Enough … We Must Destroy Radical Islam

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the horrific September 11, 2001 attack on America and the God-given freedoms we so cherish.  We remember with anger and anguish the nearly 3,000 Americans murdered by Islamic terrorists. We also remember and honor those first responders, many of whom lost their lives trying to save others.

This is also a time to remember the thousands of American soldiers who were killed, wounded or are still suffering, in the ensuing wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and places unknown. We honor those who answered our Nation’s call to Arms.  We also remember the sacrifices made by their families.

But this is a time for more than just remembering.  This is a time to rekindle the flame of retribution until the threat of Islamic terrorism is wiped from the face of the Earth.

In his speech from the Oval Office, on the evening of the September 11th attack, President George W. Bush proclaimed:

“Today, our nation saw evil — the very worst of human nature — and we responded with the best of America.” 

Yet, the evil President Bush spoke about still exists, and in many ways it is getting stronger.   Moreover, the internal threat posed by radical Islam is greater than ever.

 

Our government just doesn’t want to admit that the 9/11 attacks and the barbaric massacres committed by ISIS are sanctioned by the Koran’s mandate to wage Jihad (holy war) against non-Muslims. 

 

In December 2005, four years after 9/11, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Peter Pace explained to an audience at the National Defense University,

 

 “To talk about how we are going to proceed, we need to understand the nature of the enemy. And clearly, the nature of this enemy is different than any we have faced in the past …. Our enemies had declared war on us years before, but the attacks in New York, in the skies over Pennsylvania and here in Washington, D.C. brought home very clearly to us that we were at war.”  

 

 

General Pace went on to warn,

 

“I say you need to get out and read what our enemies [Islamists] have said. Remember Hitler. Remember he wrote Mein Kampf. He said in writing exactly what his plan was, and we collectively ignored that to our great detriment. Now, our enemies have said publicly on film, on the Internet, their goal is to destroy our way of life. No equivocation on their part. They’re not saying if you stay home, we will not come after you. They are saying their goal is to rid the Middle East of all foreigners. Then, overthrow all governments that are not friendly to them, which means every single one of those governments. Then, to use that base as a way to spread their terrorism and their oppression across the globe to include a map that shows 100 years from now that the entire globe will be under their domination.”

 

 

 Islam is a religion of violence: 

  • “[D]ismember [the American] nation, tear them apart…destroy their embassies…shoot down their planes…kill them on land, at sea, and in the air.  Kill them wherever you find them.”
  • Islamic cleric Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman (The Blind Sheikh)
  • Muslims must “destroy those who follow democracy, and we must take their followers as enemies — hate them and wage a great jihad against them.”

  • Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi, Palestinian theologian

     

  • “The real matter is the extinction of America.  And, God willing, it will fall to the ground.”

  • Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar

 

Our government dishonors the memory of those killed in the 9/11 attacks when it refuses to clearly identify the enemy:

 

  • Numerous Islamic terrorism experts who gave hundreds of presentations on Islam’s true threat to America are now banned from speaking at government counterterrorism classes and conferences.

  •  When Muslim U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan, shouting “Allahu Akbar,” killed 13 fellow soldiers and wounded 30 in the Fort Hood massacre, the government called it workplace violence. 

  • The FBI purged 876 pages and 392 presentations that were deemed offensive to Islam.

  •  The Pentagon ordered all training material used by military professional colleges and combat units scrubbed of any content offensive to Islam.

Ever since 9/11 the Thomas More Law Center has been fighting against the internal threat to our nation posed by Radical Islam.   And we will continue to do so.   


Please pray for our Armed Forces who stand guard against the threat of Radical Islam, and their families waiting for a their safe return home.
