Best Of.. The Worst Reporting of 2007

December 19, 2007 by

We forgot this little nugget from William Arkin of the Washington Post.  Human Events has the story.

“Through every Abu Ghraib and Haditha, through every rape and murder, the American public has indulged those in uniform….We pay the soldiers a decent wage, take care of their families, provide them with housing and medical care and vast social support systems and ship obscene amenities into the war zone for them, we support them in every possible way, and their attitude is that we should in addition roll over and play dead, defer to the military and the generals and let them fight their war, and give up our rights and responsibilities to speak up because they are above society?…[T]he recent NBC report is just an ugly reminder of the price we pay for a mercenary — oops sorry, volunteer — force that thinks it is doing the dirty work.”
 — WashingtonPost.com military columnist William Arkin in a column reacting to a report by NBC reporter Richard Engel, January 30. (Arkin later apologized for using the word “mercenary.”)

Another great American in journalism spewing lies and hatred of the very people that protect his rights to write this trash.

Christmas Emails to LtCol Chessani and His Family

December 19, 2007 by

Here’s the first email letter to LtCol Chessani and his family wishing them a Merry Christmas:

Dear Jeff and Alisa-it makes us so proud to see you hold your heads high with everything you are going through-the betrayal of your government after all you have sacrificed- I wish my faith in the outcome of this whole charade was as strong as yours-Your unwavering faith helps to keep you strong and focused along with the knowledge that you did what you were trained to do and your conscience is clear. Just know that we support you. We love you and we remain as proud of you today as the day you took command of this battalion…
Congratulations on the birth of the new little Chessani-Wishing you all a relaxing Christmas spent with family-
Keep walking tall..
love, aunt jennifer

Please keep them coming…

Planned Parenthood Christmas Cards?

December 18, 2007 by

These Christmas Cards from Planned Parenthood are macabre. Photos of some of Planned Parenthood’s holiday “gifts” can be found here.  “Peace on Earth” is the phrase to celebrate the good news of the birth of Christ.

“Choice on Earth” celebrates a culture of death.    These people have some serious issues.

Stop “Bleeding Kansas”

December 18, 2007 by

Politics, abortion, and money go hand-in-hand in Kansas.  A man that unfortunately has a license to practice abortions in Kansas has also allegedly tried to buy political and prosecutorial protection.   Now the Attorney General of Kansas has resigned because of his bad faith involvement.  This is a good sign.  Perhaps justice will be brought in a small way to the thousands of killed babies that Tiller has wrought.  Read the good news here.

Money quote:

“I have held others accountable for their actions, and now I must be held accountable for my mistakes,” said Morrison during his announcement. He later added, “Many people feel betrayed by my actions, and they have every right to feel that way.”

A “Warrior Class,” Apart?

December 17, 2007 by

Fr. Neuhaus has a good commentary regarding Richard Kaplan’s essay on the apparent divide between the military and the larger society.   Read Fr. Neuhaus here. The only part of the essay we do not necessarily agree with is the following:

I got to thinking about this anew when in conversation a while back with a young man, an Ivy League graduate who had just returned from his second tour in Iraq. A soldier from the Ivies is today a very rare breed.

With an all volunteer force, you need to allow recruiters and ROTC on campus to add visibility to the Armed Services as a career choice or short term option for these students.  Many of these young adults are not familar with the military and don’t even think about it unless someone presents it too them.  One good example of an Ivy Leaguer done well is Nathaniel Fick.  He wrote a great book about his exerience in OIF I as a RECON BN Officer.

Firehouse’s “Happy Birthday Jesus” Sign Sparks Debate

December 17, 2007 by

imag157-fullUTICA – When firefighters at the Shepherd Place firehouse display a homemade sign every Christmas that states “Happy Birthday Jesus – We love you,” people notice.

For some people, the sign serves as an inspiring reminder of the meaning of Christmas.

For others, the placard has sparked questions of whether such a display is appropriate for a public facility.

Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks said the two or three negative letters he has received this year pale in comparison to the outpouring of cards, baked goods and friendly words the sign has prompted.

But one person recently contacted a local chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union, which then brought the issue to the attention of City Hall, officials said.

According to several U.S. Supreme Court decisions in the 1980s, as well as President Richard Thompson of the Thomas More Law Center, the Utica Fire Department is well within its right.
