Return To Tradition,” But…

December 15, 2007 by

What started out as an interesting title and article in US News and World Report turned into another liberal hack piece.  Read it here, but don’t be deceived by the first paragraph or two.

When it starts talking about how this return to traditionalism “without troubling authority figures” and “highly politicised religious positions (like gay marriage and abortion)”… . You know this author can’t help himself but to attack the very premise he is writing the article on.  Then he dusts off some relic Jesuit priest from Georgetown to say the religious orders that wear habits again are fine, but “if the church ordained women, we’d have thousands more coming forward.”  REALLY.

The fruits of John Paul the Great are on the tree.  For the Catholic Church, that is a large part of the return to orthodoxy.  For other denominations it is the rejection of the liberalization of their faiths that do not and cannot bring them closer to God.

Pro-Lifers, Gory Pictures, and the First Amendment

December 14, 2007 by

The Abortion War still rages.  The battles are mostly private affairs, often taking place in conversations between lovers in cars, or in college dorms or over coffee at Starbucks.  Babies’ lives are fought over in private counseling sessions at Crisis Pregnancy Centers, in doctor’s offices and in the Yellow Pages or on the internet, one baby at a time.  Some battles occur in living rooms between daughters and parents, or in church offices between pastors and a parishioner.  Some are fought between a husband and a wife.  It’s a one-baby-per-battle war.  More than 45,000,000 souls lost Baby Battles since 1973.  And still the war rages…

The other day I spoke with Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel for the Thomas More Law Center, an organization of lawyers on the front lines of First Amendment litigation involving a host of issues, not the least of which is abortion.  On the one hand, the picture is bright, in that abortion is a straightforward political issue and its opponents (and proponents), whether in actual speech or in pictorial substitutes, are indeed protected by the First Amendment, a principle which has been upheld again and again by various courts at all levels of jurisdiction….

Here’s the resolution.  Here’s the story.  Here’s who voted and didn’t and how.  Redstate has a good take here.

Money section:

The measure passed by a 372-9 vote, with 10 recording a neutral “present” vote and 40 members not voting.

Wow!

Real Science Helps ‘Stem’ Embryonic Stem Cell Research

December 13, 2007 by

Real good story of how a Japanese scientist changed the debate on stem cell research because he viewed the humanity of the embryo.

Money Quote:

“When I saw the embryo, I suddenly realized there was such a small difference between it and my daughters,” said Yamanaka, 45, a father of two and now a professor at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences at Kyoto University. “I thought, we can’t keep destroying embryos for our research. There must be another way.”

Orwellian “Hate Crimes” Bill Stopped–For Now.

December 10, 2007 by

blct_205_91X90-2

Read the story here.

All these “Hate Crimes” bills really end up doing is attack Christianity.  It turns Christianity into a “hate crime”  because Christianity teaches that homosexuality is a sin–amongst other things.  This bill and its anti-discrimination conterparts are really starting to turn the legal system against the open practice of Christianity and usher in the thought police.
