Our Constitutional Freedoms are Being Crushed.

When the first American patriots encamped at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777, George Washington wrote that you could tell the route of their marches by their bloody footprints in the snow. Some were boys as young as 12 ─ others in their 50s and 60s.

December 7, 1941 – “A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”

EIGHTY-TWO YEARS AGO, on December 7, 1941, at 7:55 a.m. local time, a surprise attack was conducted by Japanese naval forces on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. The next day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, addressing a joint session of Congress, called it “a date which will live in infamy.”  He vowed:

“But always will our whole Nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.”

So today, the Thomas More Law Center asks you to remember that infamous date, when after two hours of bombing, 21 U.S. ships were sunk or damaged, 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,403 Americans were killed, and another 1,282 were wounded.  All of this happened while the U.S. and Japan were officially engaging in diplomatic negotiations for possible peace in Asia.

The continually ignored lesson of Pearl Harbor is that the guard post of liberty and peace is eternal vigilance.

Within an hour of Roosevelt’s speech, Congress declared war on the Empire of Japan.

GOD BLESS OUR VETERANS

This Saturday, November 11, is Veterans Day.  It is a day when we as a nation remember the men and women of our Armed Forces throughout our Nation’s history, who by their service, heroic sacrifices, and courage purchased for us the freedoms we enjoy today.

We remember and honor the service of all our veterans whenever and wherever they served, in war and in peace.

The words of Thomas Jefferson in a December 4, 1788 letter to George Washington embossed on the West Point library staircase, advised:

“THE POWER OF MAKING WAR OFTEN PREVENTS IT. AND IN OUR CASE WOULD GIVE EFFICACY TO OUR DESIRE OF PEACE.”

Today, more than ever, we should heed his advice as the world, filled with turmoil, is heading toward the increasing chance of mushroom clouds.

We Will Never Forget ─ Remembering 9/11

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the horrific September 11, 2001 attack on America and our God-given freedoms we so cherish. Nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered by Islamic terrorists that day. We also remember and honor the bravery of the first responders, many of whom lost their lives trying to save others.  Many more are still suffering from their injuries.

This is also the time to remember the thousands of American soldiers who were killed or wounded and are still suffering in the ensuing wars in the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, and places unknown. We honor those who answered our Nation’s call to arms. We also remember the sacrifices made by their families.

Please pray for all our men and women in harm’s way defending our Nation and way of life.

Ever since 9/11, the Thomas More Law Center has been fighting against the internal threat to our country posed by radical Islam. And we will continue to do so.

We pray that the 9/11 Families United and the 9/11 Justice organizations representing the victims and their families succeed in their efforts to hold Saudi Arabia legally responsible for its involvement in the death and carnage that occurred on that unforgettable day.

So, on this 22nd anniversary of 9/11, let us rededicate ourselves to the defeat of radical Islam. We owe this much to all who lost their lives that day, as well as in the battles that followed.  We will never forget!

The Deeper Meaning of Fourth of July

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.
We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream.  It must be fought for,
protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”

– Ronald Reagan

America’s Independence Day—the Fourth of July—is a joyous time to celebrate with family and friends.

But it’s more than just a day of fireworks, burgers on the grill, and time off from work. It’s about remembering our country’s birthday, and the sacrifices of our Founding Fathers to realize the love of freedom which God implanted on the heart of every American.

On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence from Great Britain and its king, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, the birth certificate of America.

In a letter from John Adams to his wife, Abigail, dated July 3, 1776, Adams referred to that day as “the most memorable epoch in the history of America.”

He continued:

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival.  It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.  It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward, forevermore.”

Adams concluded his letter with this stirring paragraph:

“I am well aware of the toil, and blood, and treasure, that it will cost us to maintain this declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet, through all the gloom, I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory.  I can see that the end is more than worth all the means, and that posterity will triumph in that day’s transaction, even although we should rue it, which I trust in God we shall not.”

On This Independence Day, celebrate the birth of our nation, and solemnly resolve to preserve our freedom, just as our Founding Fathers so boldly did over 247 years ago.
