Today Is The 203rd Anniversary Of Andrew Jackson’s Victory At The Battle Of New Orleans – America’s Second War For Independence

January 8, 2018 by TMLC

“I thank God that my life has been spent in a land of liberty, and that He has given me a heart to love my country with the affection of a son.” Farewell Address of President Andrew Jackson

Today, January 8th, is the 203rd anniversary of General Andrew Jackson’s historic victory over the British in the Battle of New Orleans.

On Sunday, January 8, 1815, General Andrew Jackson led a band of vastly outnumbered Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi state militia, free blacks, local civilians, French pirates, Choctaw and Creole volunteers and some Army regulars and destroyed the most modern and powerful army in the world, while the Orleans Battalion band played Yankee Doodle.

The British military establishment was stunned. How could this happen? They believed that Americans would refuse to fight Britain’s highly-disciplined military force, that Louisianans would throw off their allegiance to the United States and side with the English.

Andrew Jackson’s victory prevented Great Britain and Spain from devouring huge chunks of land that belonged to the United States. For fifty years the victory at the Battle of New Orleans was routinely celebrated throughout the nation with parades and toasts as America’s Second War for Independence.

Indeed, Americans at the time believed that the Eighth of January would be remembered like the Fourth of July as the dates representing our nation’s First and Second Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.

Clearly, the British had little respect for General Jackson’s ragtag army. They called them “dirty shirts.” But within 30 minutes of their assault on the American lines, these “dirty shirts” had destroyed the most powerful army in the world. The British lost 3 generals, 7 colonels, 75 officers, and 2000 men.  American losses totaled only 13 dead, 39 wounded, and 19 captured.

Over the past several decades, foreign powers had treated the United States with outrageous contempt. The British continued the seizure of American ships and the impressment of American sailors.  As far as England was concerned, its loss in the first War for Independence was a fluke. Now, it could exact revenge.

Three years after the War of 1812 began, American morale was at its lowest. The American army lost battle after battle in the Northwest and the Eastern coastline.  The British burned the White House as the nation’s politicians fled in humiliation.

Great Britain realized that if they could gain control of New Orleans, they would own the Mississippi River, which meant America would be split in two.

The preeminent historian on Andrew Jackson, Robert V. Remini, wrote: “The nations faith and confidence in itself had been restored by General Andrew Jackson.  He alone was responsible for giving the country back its self-respect.  He had “slaughtered” a magnificent British Army – over 2000 victims, a figure that seemed incredible at the time –  and repelled the greatest armada in history.”

Remini observed:

Jackson’s role in the war of 1812 was absolutely crucial to the future course of American expansion. Not only did he spare the nation and almost certain amputation of territory in the southwest, but he prepared the way for the immediate future growth of the American nation.”

General Jackson’s victory at the Battle of New Orleans catapulted him to national fame and to two terms as the seventh president of the United States. In his Farewell Address on March 4, 1837, Andrew Jackson said: “I thank God that my life has been spent in a land of liberty, and that He has given me a heart to love my country with the affection of a son.”

Don’t Be Fooled By Nice Talk: Islam Views Christianity As The Enemy

January 3, 2018 by TMLC

January 3, 2018

Read the excellent commentary about Islam’s view of Christianity entitled Islam In The Public Square by William Kilpatrick: Click Here

Among his observations, Mr. Kilpatrick states:

“Islamists and secularists share a desire to monopolize the public square. Both also see Christians as a particular enemy of their expansionist ambitions. Consequently, both seek to minimize the influence of Christianity in the public square.

Although Muslims in the West lack the numbers to directly limit the influence of Christians, they can do so indirectly by letting it be known that they are mightily offended by various Christian beliefs and practices. They can then rely on state and local authorities and lukewarm Christians to do the rest.”

Courage: President Trump Kept His Word To Recognize Jerusalem As The Capital Of Israel; 3 Past Presidents Failed To Keep Theirs

December 12, 2017 by TMLC

In 1995, by an overwhelming bi-partisan vote, the U.S. Congress adopted the Jerusalem Embassy Act, which mandated the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the re-location of the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, by 1999. And just 6 months ago the Act was reaffirmed by a unanimous vote of the Senate.

On December 6, 2017, a day that will be gratefully remembered in Jewish history, President Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced that America’s embassy would be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.  He kept his promise.  It was a courageous and just decision.

Over 3,000 years ago, long before Christ or Mohammed walked on Earth, King David recognized Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel. Responding to President Trump’s announcement, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, commented “Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people for 3,000 years…. It was here that our temples stood, our kings ruled, our prophets preached.”

“But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.”  2 Chronicles 6:6

Despite the clear mandate of the Jerusalem Embassy Act, and their solemn campaign promises to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, three presidents, Clinton, Bush, and Obama, failed to deliver.

A video clip of their promises, here.

Apparently, these three past presidents were more concerned about Muslim reaction than implementing the clear wishes of the American people expressed through their elected representatives in Congress.

President Trump delivered on his promise, undaunted by the catalogue of threats of violence and fury which would be unleashed on us by the Arab world.

Inflamed by their leaders, enraged Muslims routinely take to the streets chanting anti-American slogans and burning our Flag. Use of these mobs is a favorite tactic of our “friendly” Muslim leaders who seek to change our policies. These wild-eyed demonstrations and threats of violence must never influence our foreign policy.  It may have worked in the past.  Not anymore.  There’s a new sheriff in town.

Israel is a trustworthy friend.  Moreover, it has the most powerful military in the Middle East and a western style democracy to which we have a close affinity. It stood alongside the U.S. and served as a buffer to Soviet influence in the Middle East in the 1970s. We now have a strong alliance fighting Islamic terrorism.

Let’s stand fast with Israel over our double-dealing so called “Muslim allies,” whose strategic goal is animated by their religion of Islam, which calls for the destruction of Western Civilization, the domination of America and the establishment of a caliphate. Significantly, Turkey, with its horrible history of human rights violations and an on again off again friendship with the United States, has already developed a new partnership with Putin.

Contrary to the hand wringing predictions of doom from our European allies, the UN and the EU—whose policies have already initiated the beginning of an Islamic domination of their cultures—President Trump’s bold new move may actually jump-start a meaningful peace process, a process which for over two decades has been nothing but a meaningless mirage.
