Why Do We Fight Islamic Indoctrination In The U.S.

All you have to do is look at what’s happening in the Netherlands to understand why the Thomas More Law Center is so zealously fighting against Islamic indoctrination in public schools across the United States.

Parents in the Netherlands can’t stop their children from being subjected to Islamic indoctrination.  In fact, parents who refuse to let their children attend mosque trips, are subject to fines and are often bullied by their schools. Such bullying also happens here in the United States as witnessed by Libby Hilsenrath when she made the public aware of Islamic indoctrination in the Chathams Middle School. 

But, parents in the United States have the Thomas More Law Center and our Constitution to stop this indoctrination. Hugo Bos, investigating Islamic indoctrination in Dutch schools, is aware of the lawsuits fighting Islamic indoctrination being filed by the Thomas More Law Center in the United States.

Celebrating America’s Independence

Celebrating America’s Independence Day – Mindful Of The Deeper Meaning

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”  – Ronald Reagan

America’s Independence Day—the Fourth of July—is a joyous time to celebrate with family and friends.

But it’s more than a day of fireworks, burgers on the grill and a day off from work. It’s about remembering our country’s birthday, and the significant steps our Founding Fathers took to make the dream of this “great experiment” a reality.

On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence from Great Britain and its king, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, the birth certificate of America.

In a letter from John Adams to his wife, Abigail, dated July 3d, 1776, Adams refers to that day as “the most memorable epoch in the history of America.”  

He continued:

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward, forevermore.”

Adams concludes his letter with this stirring paragraph:

“I am well aware of the toil, and blood, and treasure, that it will cost us to maintain this declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet, through all the gloom, I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is more than worth all the means, and that posterity will triumph in that day’s transaction, even although we should rue it, which I trust in God we shall not.”

This Independence Day, may we celebrate the birth of our nation proudly, resolutely determined to preserve our freedom, just as our Founding Fathers proclaimed so boldly over 240 years ago.

Saint Thomas More – A Model of Christian Discipleship Today

“If we lived in a state where virtue was profitable, common sense would make us saintly. But since we see that avarice, anger, pride and stupidity commonly profit far beyond charity, modesty, justice and thought, perhaps we must stand fast a little, even at the risk of being heroes.” – Thomas More

   Today, June 22, the feast day of Saint Thomas More, is especially important to the Thomas More Law Center, as he is the namesake of our organization and in many ways, exemplifies the mission and ideals to which we aspire in our daily work as a public interest law firm.

   We remember More as a man devoted to Christ who willingly sacrificed his power, his wealth, and ultimately his life out of love for Christ and His Church.

   The subject of the 1966, Academy award-winning film, “A Man for All Seasons,” Thomas More is recognized as one of history’s most admired figures. An outstanding lawyer, author, judge and diplomat, he rose to the highest office in England next to the King. Yet he chose death rather than betray his conscience. More was beheaded on July 6, 1535 on orders of King Henry VIII, his one-time friend, because he would not accede to the Oath of Supremacy declaring Henry to be the supreme head of the Church of England.  

   As he stood on the scaffold before his execution, he proclaimed to the crowd “I die the King’s good servant, but God’s first.” In that simple phrase More summarizes the call of Christian discipleship and the proper perspective we must all bring to our daily lives and work – to be God’s servant first!

   On Thomas More, Winston Churchill wrote: 

“He represents to history its universality, its belief in spiritual values, and its instinctive sense of otherworldliness.” 

   Pope John Paul II commenting on the life of Thomas More, wrote:

“What enlightened his conscience was the sense that man cannot be sundered from God, nor politics from morality.

And it was precisely in defense of the rights of conscience that the example of Thomas More shone brightly. It can be said that he demonstrated in a singular way the value of a moral conscience which is ‘the witness of God himself, whose voice and judgment penetrate the depths of man’s soul’ even if, in his actions against heretics, he reflected the limits of the culture of his time.”

   So, has that much really changed?

   Liberals want to confine a Christian’s religious freedom to a matter of belief rather than expression and action. In other words, you can think whatever you want, just keep it within the confines of your brain.

   But we define ourselves by our actions.  We are citizens of both the earthly and heavenly cities, and so, will act in accordance with realities of both on issues such as marriage, abortion, the sanctity of human life, euthanasia, what is taught to children in public schools, and the list goes on.

   It takes moral courage to say “no” to those in power. The Thomas More Law Center has represented many modern-day Thomas Mores in the 20 years of our existence. And that number is increasing.

   Indeed, there are courageous men and women in our culture today. They will not be beheaded for their moral and religious based actions, but they are more likely to be bankrupted by punitive civil penalties, ostracized from their profession and even their churches (Thomas More was highly critical of the Bishops of his day), ridiculed by the media and culture elite and even their neighbors, fired from their jobs, frozen out of certain occupations and professions.

   Like Thomas More, they will be condemned as “criminals” who defy the general order because of their religious consciences. They will be told, “You can keep your consciences to yourself as long as you do what society and the government demands.”

   In 1929, the renowned author, G. K. Chesterton, wrote: 

“Thomas More is more important at this moment than at any moment since his death . . .but he is not quite so important as he will be in about a hundred years’ time.”

   Although it hasn’t quite been a hundred years, Chesterton’s prediction is already proving true. In an increasingly powerful and militant secular culture that exhibits its growing hostility towards Christians, Thomas More provides the model for all faithful followers of Christ— regardless of denomination.  

   In his life and death, Thomas More summarizes the call of Christian discipleship and the proper perspective we must all bring to our daily lives and work – to be God’s servant first!

Celebrating Flag Day 2018

   The American Flag was once described by President Calvin Coolidge as representative of “our peace and security, our civil and political liberty, our freedom of religious worship, our family, our friends, and our home.” On June 14, we pay homage to the Stars and Stripes on National Flag Day. 

   A Brief History of Flag Day:

   On June 14, 1777, Continental Congress adopted the American Flag in the First Flag Act, which states: “That the flag of the United States shall be of thirteen stripes of alternate red and white, with a union of thirteen stars of white in a blue field, representing the new constellation.”

   Over 100 years later, in 1885, a small-town Wisconsin teacher named Bernard Cigrand came up with the idea of an annual flag birthday to be celebrated every June 14. He lobbied Congress for years to celebrate it as a national holiday. He is sometimes called the “Father of Flag Day.” On May 7, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first state to establish the June 14 Flag Day as a legal holiday, a recognition that Pennsylvania holds today.

   Both President Wilson, in 1916, and President Coolidge, in 1927, issued proclamations asking for June 14 to be observed as the National Flag Day. But it wasn’t until August 3, 1949, that Congress approved the national observance, and President Harry Truman signed it into law.

   The U.S. government encourages its citizens to display Old Glory outside of their homes and businesses. Today is a day of reflection as we consider the sacrifices our ancestors made and consider how we might carry on their work so that our grandchildren may live in the freedom the Stars and Stripes majestically proclaim.

Today We Remember The Greatest Generation

June 6, 2018: The 74th Anniversary Of The Invasion Of Normandy

On that day soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen braved the horrendous shelling of German shore batteries to storm the beaches at Normandy and bring down Hitler and Nazi Germany.

On the eve of the invasion, General Eisenhower gave the go-ahead for Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious military operation in history. The expeditionary force of 175,000 men were given their orders by Eisenhower, who closed his speech by beseeching “the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.”

Perhaps it’s best to remember this greatest generation by reflecting on the prayerful words spoken by Franklin D. Roosevelt that day:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.

They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.

They will be sore tried, by night and by day, without rest-until the victory is won. The darkness will be rent by noise and flame. Men’s souls will be shaken with the violences of war.  

For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and good will among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home.

Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.

And for us at home – fathers, mothers, children, wives, sisters, and brothers of brave men overseas – whose thoughts and prayers are ever with them – help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice.

Many people have urged that I call the Nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts.

Give us strength, too – strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces.

And let our hearts be stout, to wait out the long travail, to bear sorrows that may come, to impart our courage unto our sons wheresoever they may be.

And, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade. Let not the keenness of our spirit ever be dulled. Let not the impacts of temporary events, of temporal matters of but fleeting moment let not these deter us in our unconquerable purpose.

With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogancies. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace, a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.

Thy will be done, Almighty God.

Remember America’s Fallen This Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend is a time to remember the fallen heroes throughout our nation’s history “who gave the last full measure of devotion” to their country.

“As we honor their memory today, let us pledge that their lives, their sacrifices, their valor shall be justified and remembered for as long as God gives life to this nation.”   Ronald Reagan

Mere words cannot capture the enormity of their sacrifice or the anguish of loved ones they left behind. 

On this Memorial Day weekend of 2018, it is also proper to remember and pray for our troops who are now in harm’s way. Let us also pray for their families and loved ones as they endure the hardship and uncertainty of deployment. Always remember:

 
“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”   George Orwell  

I close this Memorial Day message with a favorite poem by Marine Chaplain Father Dennis Edward O’Brien, which pays tribute to our courageous soldiers for their service in protecting the fundamental liberties guaranteed by our Constitution:

It is the Soldier 

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag
